4-Tour carrée

La construction de cette tour imposante (l’épaisseur des murs atteint 2m) est antérieure à celle de l’enceinte castrale avec laquelle elle fait corps au sud-est.

L’enceinte enserre, à gauche, le premier logis du château (11e siècle), et à droite l’ensemble ecclésiastique avec la chapelle castrale (12e siècle). La tour serait la construction en pierre la plus ancienne du site, sans doute un vestige du château primitif.

En continuant le parcours remarquer dans les parties non remaniées que la technique de construction de l’enceinte castrale diffère de celle de l’enceinte urbaine, ici les pierres sont taillées, quadrangulaires et posées à joint relativement fins.

The construction of this imposing tower (the thickness of the walls reaches 2m) predates that of the castle enclosure with which it forms part of the south-east. The enclosure surrounds, on the left, the first dwelling of the castle (11th century), and on the right the ecclesiastical complex with the castle chapel (12th century). The tower is said to be the oldest stone construction on the site, probably a vestige of the primitive castle.

Along the road, it should be noted that the construction technique of the castral enclosure differs from that of the urban enclosure; here the stones are cut, quadrangular and laid with relatively fine joints.
